While growing up amid Floridas notoriously hot climate, spending time in the ocean became as much necessity as it was recreational. Naturally, I began riding waves on a boogie board and then quickly graduated to a surfboard. As a teenager I started to compete in local surfing competitions, which led to sponsorships that allowed me to travel and further expand my skill set in various types of waves.
To this day I feel as if salt water runs through my veins. Surfing has provided my life with genuine bliss and many unique opportunities. Through my surf coaching program I hope to share this amazing experience with you!
I offer customized lessons for beginner (those who have never seen a surfboard in their life), intermediate (those who already know how to catch a wave and stand up on their own), and advanced (those who can ride a down the line and maneuver their surfboard) levels of surfers.
Beginner Surfing Lessons
If youve never surfed, or have had a few lessons but still need help with the basics -- a beginner lesson is just what you need. I can provide you with the necessary equipment, and share my knowledge to help get you well prepared and feeling confident to eventually go out and tackle the waves on your own.
Intermediate/Advanced Coaching
My philosophy towards coaching is based on mastering fundamentals to ensure having a solid foundation to build from. By watching your approach on a few waves, I analyze your current skill level and determine any gaps that may be hindering your progress. Well then discuss ways to improve your technique. The most important part, and what I feel is my strength as a surf coach, is establishing the precise next step that needs to be taken without skipping anything. I cant emphasize this enough -- building a solid foundation is the key to accelerating your progress.
Safety is a priority
-I am CPR and First Aid certified through the American Heart Association.
-Each lesson will begin with a quick study of the ocean regarding its currents, rip tides, basic surf etiquette and other surf related knowledge Ive acquired from over 20 years of experience riding waves.
-During this discussion is a good time to warm up. Flexibility plays an important role in surfing, so we will start with some light stretches and movements to warm the body up. For the beginners - we will then spend some time doing pop ups on the beach to learn the proper technique for standing up on a surfboard.
-Prioritizing safety also includes measures that come in handy over the long term, and by that I mean sunscreen. Skin cancer is a serious thing - so make sure you invest in good sunscreen, especially for your face and ears.
Private Lessons are only $80 (cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal) for 90 minutes - A rental soft-top longboard and wetsuit are included at no extra cost.
I can also teach small groups of 2 - 3 students at a discounted rate of $60 per person for 90 minutes.
All ages welcome. Transportation to the beach is not included.
